ABOUT US

about us
Like a lighthouse perched upon a hill top overlooking the seaside. Every guestroom comes with a beautiful ocean view.
Like a lighthouse, Jukaitei watches over the expanding horizon.
Each guest room provides a beautiful view of the sea. Watch the sun set slowly over the horizon from your room or private in room bath.
The view isn’t the only thing the sea provides. The inn’s master travels to the local fisherman’s market almost daily to hand pick the ingredients for Jukaitei’s lavish meals. Enjoy the flavors of the sea, seasons and local ingredients through carefully prepared dishes.

Taiza Crab – The diamond of the winter ocean
Taiza Crab Snow Crab
From November 6th the fishing ban on the exclusive and highly sought after “Taiza-gani” (Taiza Crab) is lifted, allowing us to bring the very best of Japanese snow crab to your table. Taiza-gani is considered the highest priced and brand of snow crab in the world because of its rarity and super high quality. Only the crabs unloaded at the small port of “Taiza” along the Tango Peninsula in Northern Kyoto are allowed to be named “Taiza-gani”.
Captured off the shores of Cape Kyogamisaki and sold at the nearby Taiza port, these snow crab are caught and prepared on the same day. Taiza-gani is a name given only to the crabs which pass a rigorous check measuring the size and weight of the crab as well as the thickness of the meat.
The proprietor of hotel Jukaitei is also the sole supplier of our Taiza-gani snow crab. Utilizing his expertise gained through many years of experience he is able to select only the best of Taiza snow crab for the consumption of our valued guests. Plans include gourmet meals served in the comfort of your room commanding a magnificent view of The Sea of Japan.
jukaitei grandfather
"Taiza's Number One!", our grandfather the famous free diver,
with his special catch of the day.

Yukiyoshi Niwa is known as Taiza’s local celebrity for his appearance on several TV shows and in the media. Since 1958, for over half a century, he has free dived off the shores and brings his catch back to prepare and serve to our guests. Even at the ripe old age of 87 he can still be found free diving.

Grandfather loves the sea and knows all that there is to be known about it. Sometimes he will dive for as long as seven hours until he is able to catch just the right ingredients. He has also dived up to 20 meters or more in search of the perfect catch.

Unlike catches brought in by boats his catches of sea urchin, abalone and turban shell are carefully caught one by one and in perfect condition without any scratches or damage.
